FROMM'S LED UPGRADE PROJECT SAVES WHOLESALER $36K A YEAR IN ENERGY COSTS
Cooper-Booth Wholesale Company, located in Mountville, Pennsylvania, has been in the wholesale distribution business since 1865. It serves a variety of retailers in the Mid-Atlantic region, and has been recognized as one of the top 20 leading convenience store wholesalers in the United States.
Problem
Cooper-Booth completed several interior and exterior LED lamp upgrades in the past and experienced significant energy efficiency savings. This made its decision to continue with lighting upgrades an easy one. Its operations team contacted Fromm and inquired about retrofitting its entire 20,000 square foot facility, including warehouse areas and offices, most of which are lit 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Solution
Fromm’s energy efficiency team performed an onsite energy audit and lighting design verification, during which they counted Cooper-Booth’s lights and compiled a description and summary of its existing systems. Based on the assessment of Cooper-Booth’s power needs, Fromm made recommendations on how Cooper-Booth could improve the energy efficiency of its lighting. Acting on these recommendations, Cooper-Booth purchased and installed new LED fixtures with occupancy sensors that were designed for its warehouse aisle layouts. These occupancy sensors provide further savings along with a longer fixture life. Cooper-Booth also installed new LED lamps in strip fixtures and replaced its office lighting with new LED downlights and flat panels.
Result
In addition to improving Cooper-Booth’s energy efficiency, the upgrade gave the facility a modern look. The upgrades are expected to save Cooper-Booth around $36,288 a year in energy costs, plus a few thousand dollars in additional maintenance savings. Fromm also helped Cooper-Booth apply for energy rebates with its local utility company, resulting in $33,599 back in rebates, which cut the final estimated payback on its investment to under one year.
